Highlights: Crafts market, Kasubi tombs, local food and Owino market

Day 1 - Kampala city tour

Meet your guide in the morning and be ready to experience Uganda's capital city Kampala. Start with a visit to Owino market, this is one of East-Africa's biggest markets and you will be amazed by the number of people and things for sale. Keep close to your guide as you are taken through the bustling market. When having exited the market you will be shown the old taxi park in Kampala. In Uganda taxis are minibuses used for public transport and for an onlooker it looks like a chaos with all the people and taxis in one big square. Continue on for lunch at a local restaurant, tasting things like matoke, cassava, beans or goat-stew.
After lunch you head off to see the world heritage site of Kasubi tombs. Along the way you pass by the royal palace of Buganda and see the Namirembe cathedral. Kasubi tombs is the burial site of the kings of the Buganda kingdom and the site plays a role in rituals and ceremonies kept alive up to today. A tour around will give you great insight into the Buganda culture. To finish off the city tour you will be taken to a crafts market for the chance of bringing home some beautiful hand-crafts.
